Stay

The Bowmont was built in 1906 as a working bank. The manager lived upstairs. We can't speak to his taste in interiors, but the history is still very much here. We've just made it worth staying in.

The apartment occupies the entire upper floor, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a lux bathroom, and enough good spots to settle into for a while. The king bedroom faces the valley; on a clear day, the snow settles on the hills. The queen overlooks the river. There's a sitting room with a window seat to watch people messing about in boats and reading room with curated library and a large vintage school map of Tasmania, in case you need to plan a road trip.

Breakfast provisions are included. Sourdough from the valley, good butter, something from a jar, housemade granola, fresh fruit. A small showcase of what the Huon does well, which turns out to be quite a lot.

Downstairs, the former bank chamber is now a photography studio books out for shoots and retreats, and the occasional event fills the space on a Saturday night. The Bowmont is still in use, still accumulating its story. You're just the latest chapter.
